Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di ordered construction of his mausoleum shortly after assuming the throne in 246BC. The life size terracotta army protects the tomb in Xi'an. Yang Zhifa, a farmer, is credited with the discovery in 1974. We met him in the museum bookstore.
